Do FAQ, HowTo, and QAPage schemas still provide value?
Short answer: Their value as rich results has shrunk; their value as structured data remains. In 2023 Google removed HowTo rich results and restricted FAQ rich results largely to authoritative government and health sites; QAPage still applies to genuine question-and-answer pages.
Why markup is still worth it
- Schema.org JSON-LD makes content machine-readable: questions, answers, and steps are labeled without ambiguity.
- In the crawling pipeline that AI engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and DeepSeek draw from, clear structure helps content get segmented correctly.
- Combined with Organization, Product, Article, and BreadcrumbList, it builds a consistent entity graph.
Practical advice: keep FAQ content on the page when it serves users, mark it up with JSON-LD, but do not expect the click uplift of the rich-result era. Validate with Search Console's appearance reports and the Rich Results Test. TYS Digital Performance treats schema as a data layer, not decoration: its visibility effect is measured against a baseline.
